In temporarily occupied Melitopol, Zaporizhzhia region, explosions rang out on the night of April 14, followed by a fire at an electrical substation and a partial blackout, according to OSINT channels.

According to local public channels, the city was attacked by drones. After the strike, a strong fire broke out at the electrical substation. Footage posted online shows thick smoke and flames engulfing the facility.
As a result of the attack, part of Melitopol was left without electricity. Local residents report a partial blackout. Information about casualties and the extent of the damage is being clarified.

Melitopol has been under temporary Russian occupation since the beginning of March 2022. The city is an important logistical and transport hub in southern Ukraine.
Ukrainian partisans and Defense Forces regularly strike enemy military facilities, ammunition depots, and infrastructure.
In recent months alone, several attacks have been recorded on the railway line and a fuel depot. At the end of December 2025, Ukraine’s Defense Intelligence (HUR) released footage of an explosion near a Russian military Ural truck, which killed at least four Russians.
Against this backdrop, Russian authorities are intensifying repression against the local population. In March 2026, Russia convicted three teenagers from Melitopol to sentences of 7 to 8.5 years in prison on fabricated terrorism charges, which human rights defenders called a war crime.
Melitopol itself was one of the key targets of the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ 2023 counteroffensive in the south. As revealed by the General Staff, the strike toward the city had been planned as early as 2022.
