PONCHATOULA, La. — A lightning strike is blamed for setting fire to a historic Ponchatoula art gallery Monday night, causing it to close temporarily.
Flames erupted from Twin Steeples Creative Arts Center around 6 p.m. In a Facebook post, the arts center confirmed that no one was injured, adding that the building was closed for the day.
Video shared on social media by the art gallery shows the roof engulfed in flames. Emergency responders told our partners at WBRZ that they believe the damage was significant.
Twin Steeples said it is working to figure out its next steps.
“We have to assess the damage, rearrange our packed schedule, and plan our recovery,” the arts gallery said in a Facebook post.
The arts gallery told WWL Louisiana it is waiting for the fire department’s damage report and an insurance assessment before sharing a reopening timeline.
