KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – An apartment complex that has been riddled with vacant fires saw another Tuesday night, according to KCFD.
The fire, which was called in to the Kansas City Fire Department at 7:07 p.m. in the 1500 block of Euclid, came on the same day Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas told KCTV the demolition of the complex is scheduled for the end of January.
“After you have your demolition, at the end of January, and by the end of January, you’re going to have the steps on rebuilding. Hopefully, you continue to have a process where, within the next two or three years, you have folks able to move into some parts of the new Parade Park development,” Lucas said.
The fire Tuesday night included heavy fire from a vacant two-story apartment building.
KCFD said crews fought it inside before moving outside to continue fighting after several minutes and a search of the structure complete.
Crews had the fire contained and were working on hot spots at 8 p.m.
No injuries were reported.
Once the complex is demolished in late January, the complex is planned for a redevelopment with 1,085 new apartments. It will include housing for low-income residents and the elderly. Developers have said the project will take between 7-10 years to complete.
