Our company is headquartered in Santa Barbara CA, the capital of infrared sensing technologies in the United States. Founded in 2020, our design team has worked together for more than 15 years on thermal/visible camera systems and on products that are currently distributed worldwide. We specialized in working with our customers to meet the unique thermal imaging needs of their clients. Our proven systems have been installed globally in commercial applications for energy production and distribution, food production, transportation, industrial automation, and elevated body temperature (EBT) detection.
The issue leads with Ghana, where a catastrophic fire at the Akosombo hydroelectric power plant substation caused widespread loadshedding in Ghana and neighbouring Benin, Burkina Faso, and Togo. Output at the strategic plant has been restored, but the political fallout continues.
The issue also focuses on LNG, with African natural gas producers looking to develop new business with Asian and European gas buyers, who may look to diversify their supply following the rude shock of the Strait of Hormuz’s closure.
African Energy also reflects on Senelec’s acquisition of 100% of the equity in the West African Energy (WAE) Cap des Biches gas-to-power plant. Progress at the 365MW project had been notably slow, with Dakar directly intervening last year to accelerate commissioning. Although structured as an IPP, it was not openly tendered, but was instead awarded directly by then-president Macky Sall.
Power sector coverage includes news that Zambia’s Copperbelt Energy Corporation (CEC) has commissioned the second 136MWp phase of its Itimpi solar IPP. The new capacity will help diversify Zambia’s on-grid energy mix away from hydroelectric power.
African Energy also examines Nigeria’s grid performance and takes a closer look at the award of a utility-scale PV plant and transmission network upgrade scheme in Guinea.
Commercial and industrial coverage includes news of a PPA for a vast C&I power plant in DR Congo, plus miners’ power procurement plans in Côte d’Ivoire and Guinea.
Oil and gas coverage include a focus on the evolving challenge of pre-emption rights, plus a look at Exxon Mobil’s planned multi-billion-dollar deepwater investments in Nigeria.
The African Energy View examines how Botswana’s delayed entry into the IPP market contrasts sharply with early-mover Côte d’Ivoire’s experience of private power development, highlighting the extent that regulatory structures and offtaker credibility can outweigh income levels in attracting private capital.
