Firefighters contained a structure fire in Columbia on Thursday afternoon.
On April 30 at 1:47 p.m., Columbia Fire Department (CFD) responded to a commercial structure fire in the 2400 block of Whitegate Drive.
Units arrived within four minutes and discovered a two-story apartment complex with smoke showing from the second-story unit.
Firefighters ascended the stairs to gain access to the fire while also simultaneously searching for possible victims.
The fire was brought under control within 15 minutes of their arrival.
CFD stated there was one occupant at home during the time of the fire, but they had evacuated prior to their arrival by jumping out a window.
They were transported by ambulance to a hospital for evaluation.
Fire marshals are investigating the origin and cause of the fire.
