WASHINGTON COUNTY Ore. (KPTV) – A house and an RV were completely lost to a fire, leaving five people without a home on Saturday afternoon, according to Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue.
Shortly after 12:30 p.m., fire crews were sent to the property on Southwest Hillsboro Highway/Highway 219, north of Northeast Mountain Top Road in unincorporated Washington County, after multiple people called 911 to report seeing black smoke and flames.
Arriving crews found a four-story log house engulfed in flames, with the fire threatening nearby trees, an RV, and other outbuildings. Neighbors told firefighters that all the people who lived in the house, along with their pets, were away from home.
Firefighters called a second alarm and closed the highway for several hours as they brought in water trucks and additional crews.
Shortly after crews began fighting the fire, the cabin’s roof collapsed.
Eventually, firefighters were able to get the flames under control and stopped the fire from spreading beyond the home and RV into the trees and other buildings.
A fire investigator is working to determine the cause.
