The fire, which was triggered on the second deck of the building, was contained by an activated sprinkler system. On December 14, 2024, at 8:21 AM, the Sandwich Fire Department was called to respond to a report of smoke in the building located at 18 Jan Sebastian Drive in the Sandwich Industrial Park. Upon arrival, firefighters found heavy smoke conditions inside Unit 3, with the building’s sprinkler system activated and water flowing.

The fire was discovered on the second deck of the building, where the sprinkler system effectively contained the flames. However, the large volume of smoke throughout the building posed challenges for the firefighters. A second alarm was issued, and additional resources were called in from the Joint Base Fire Department, Mashpee Fire, Bourne Fire, Cotuit Fire, and COMM Fire to assist with the operation.

It took about 30 minutes for the firefighters to fully extinguish the fire, after which they spent another hour ventilating the multiple units in the building to clear the heavy smoke. In total, 34 firefighters were involved in the response. The Providence Canteen provided refreshments on site, while other local fire departments, including Falmouth, West Barnstable, and Barnstable Fire Departments, provided coverage during the incident.

The estimated damage from the fire is around $200,000. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. The Sandwich Fire Department’s Fire Investigation Unit is currently working to determine the cause of the fire.
