Governor Jared Polis has issued a disaster emergency declaration<\/strong> for the Oak Fire<\/strong> burning just west of Pagosa Springs, north of Highway 160. The declaration comes after the Archuleta County Sheriff\u2019s Office<\/strong> requested state assistance, citing that the fire\u2019s rapid spread had exceeded local firefighting capacity.
As of last night, the Oak Fire<\/strong> had burned 150 acres<\/strong>, with mandatory evacuations<\/strong> in place.
Meanwhile, the Lee Fire<\/strong>\u2014burning in Rio Blanco and Garfield counties<\/strong>\u2014has grown to over 113,000 acres<\/strong>, making it the sixth-largest wildfire in Colorado history<\/strong>. It began on August 2<\/strong> and has damaged or destroyed several structures, though no fatalities have been reported.
In Chaffee County, Sheriff Andy Rohrich<\/strong> has issued Stage I fire restrictions<\/strong> for all unincorporated areas, including Buena Vista<\/strong> and Poncha Springs<\/strong>.
