The Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service quickly responded, dispatching six fire appliances to the scene. As the blaze grew in intensity, it became visible from miles away, and onlookers were alarmed by the sight of thick black smoke and the loud bangs heard from the fire. By 2:20 am, the flames were still raging, prompting Patricia Cole, a local resident, to call emergency services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Though the fire was contained by early morning, the building continued to smolder, and residents in the surrounding area were advised to keep their windows closed to avoid inhaling the smoke. A partial road closure was also implemented to ensure the safety of emergency workers and the public.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The fire caused significant damage, with losses estimated between \u00a31 million and \u00a31.5 million. The fire\u2019s aftermath highlighted the critical role of early detection systems in industrial areas, where delays in identifying such incidents can result in devastating financial losses. One of the key tools for early detection is thermal imaging technology, which can detect unusual heat patterns that indicate the potential for a fire outbreak.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Planck Vision Systems\u2019 thermal imaging cameras are equipped to provide 24\/7 monitoring of industrial facilities, including large substations. These cameras, whether fixed or mounted on pan\/tilt drives, are able to capture high-resolution thermal images across large areas. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

By integrating advanced software for data analysis, these systems can identify trends and anomalies that help in preventing unforeseen incidents. If such a system had been in place on the Gateshead industrial estate, it could have detected heat anomalies early, potentially mitigating the damage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
