On Monday, October 14, 2024, a fire erupted at Hotel Muhabura in Musanze District around 10 PM. The blaze primarily affected the hotel’s bar and restaurant area, along with five storage rooms.

Thankfully, Superintendent Bosco Mwiseneza, the police spokesperson for Northern Province, confirmed that no injuries occurred during the incident.

The Police Fire and Rescue Brigade responded swiftly, extinguishing the flames before they could spread to other parts of the hotel. An investigation is currently underway to identify the exact cause of the fire, which preliminary reports suggest may be linked to faulty electrical wiring. The extent of the damage is still being assessed, with estimates around $200,000.

Superintendent Mwiseneza emphasized the importance of public vigilance and fire prevention measures. “Fires not only cause property damage but also put people’s lives in danger,” he stated. He urged everyone to be aware of potential fire hazards and to take necessary precautions to minimize risks.

As for Hotel Muhabura, one of the oldest hotels in Rwanda, established between 1954 and 1956 and originally named Hotel Mimosa, it is unclear whether operations will continue following the fire.
