Overnight on September 1, drones struck several infrastructure sites in Russia’s Krasnodar region, including a major power substation in the town of Kropotkin and an area near the Ilsky oil refinery.
According to Russian outlet Astra, explosions were reported in Kropotkin, where a 330 kV electrical substation caught fire after the drone strike.
The facility supplied power to the regional grid and served as a hub for key railway connections in the region. Parts of the town temporarily lost electricity following the incident.
The Krasnodar regional emergency headquarters later confirmed a fire at the Kropotkin transformer substation, stating that no casualties were reported and that the blaze was extinguished several hours later.
However, local residents reported heavy smoke lingering in several districts, making it difficult to breathe.
Earlier, on August 30, Ukrainian drones struck two major oil refineries in Russia’s Krasnodar and Samara regions, causing large fires.
According to Robert “Madyar” Brovdi, commander of Ukraine’s Drone Forces, the Krasnodar refinery was hit by the 14th Separate UAV Regiment in coordination with Special Operations Forces, while another strike reached the Syzran refinery in Samara, a key Rosneft facility with an annual capacity of 8.5 million tons.
