ELKO COUNTY, Nev. (KOLO) – There are currently 505 firefighters battling the Jakes Fire off Midas Road and Old Highway 18 in Elko County, according to a Saturday, Aug. 9, update from the Bureau of Land Management, Elko District.
The blaze has charred 82,216.6 acres, a 6 a.m. Watch Duty update said.
The active blaze is 65% contained.
Crews will continue mop-up and patrol along the north, east, and south perimeters on Saturday where control lines are in place.
Firefighters spiked out in the Snowstorm Mountains recently and are continuing direct line construction on the western flank. This is where moderate fire behavior is anticipated on Saturday.
