The fire ignited in the engine room shortly after the vessel departed Yalova, heading to Burgas, Bulgaria. Despite the swift response from maritime authorities, two sailors tragically lost their lives. The estimated damage from the incident is approximately $1 million, and an investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the fire.

On October 31, 2024, a serious fire broke out on the general cargo vessel FG Sevil while it was underway in the Sea of Marmara, off the coast of Sedef Island, near Istanbul. The vessel had just left the port of Yalova and was on its way to Burgas, Bulgaria, when flames erupted in its engine room.
The Directorate General of Coastal Safety (KEGM) promptly responded by dispatching multiple vessels, including the rescue boat KEGM-4 and tugs Kurtarma 7 and Sark, to assist with the emergency. The quick response allowed for the successful evacuation of 23 personnel from the FG Sevil. Tragically, two sailors were found unresponsive in the engine room and were later declared dead.
In total, the vessel was carrying 17 crew members and eight workers from a local shipyard at the time of the fire. Following the incident, FG Sevil was towed to a secure anchorage, and an investigation has been initiated to ascertain the causes of the blaze.
