Planck Vision Systems: Taichung North District Electric Bus Fire with Losses of NT$3 Million

NEWS

In the early hours of October 21, 2024, a serious fire broke out at a parking lot in Taichung’s North District. This parking lot belonged to the defunct Sifang Company, housing several electric buses. The fire was intense, prompting the Taichung City Fire Department to dispatch 10 units, including the Eighth Brigade and Dongshan Division, with a total of 21 fire trucks and 46 firefighters. Fortunately, the fire was swiftly brought under control, and there were no casualties. However, 9 electric buses were completely destroyed.

Initial estimates indicate that the fire caused approximately NT$3 million (around USD 100,000) in damages. This incident underscores the importance of fire risk management when using electric vehicles. Preliminary investigations suggest that the cause of the fire may be related to lithium battery failure, with further investigation ongoing.

In today’s rapidly evolving electric vehicle and lithium battery technology landscape, the importance of fire detection systems cannot be overstated. Early fire detection can identify potential fire risks promptly, thereby minimizing property damage and safeguarding human lives.
