On October 3, 2024, at around 12:51 a.m., a devastating fire broke out in a flat in Barking, London, caused by a catastrophic failure of a lithium battery that Ken was using to heat a hot tub. The explosion sent flames shooting through the roof and into the attic, engulfing the entire room in a matter of minutes. Joanne Davis, 45, heard a loud bang and Ken’s desperate screams of “Jo, save me” as she rushed to rescue him.

Upon opening the door, Joanne was met with a terrifying sight: flames everywhere, sparks shooting out like fireworks. With remarkable courage, she entered the room three times before successfully pulling Ken from the inferno.

After calling emergency services, approximately 60 firefighters, along with police and ambulance crews, responded to the scene, leading around 50 residents to safety from the burning building.

Despite the swift response, Ken suffered severe injuries, including 7% burns and damage to his chest and lungs due to inhaling toxic vapors from the explosion. He remains in the hospital, heavily sedated and under close observation.

Tragically, the couple lost their possessions, their home, and their beloved cats, Toby and Tilly, in the fire. The estimated damages from this tragic incident stand at around £200,000.

This incident underscores the critical importance of early fire detection systems, such as those offered by Planck Vision Systems. Their superior thermal imaging technology is designed to detect minute temperature variations, ensuring the safety of homes and preventing tragedies like this.

With always-on technology that catches every anomaly, they minimize risks and preempt system failures. Early detection could save lives and protect homes from devastating losses in the future.
