Air quality surveys conducted by the Environmental Protection Agency and the state Environmental Protection Division indicated the presence of harmful chlorine in the air, leading authorities to advise residents to turn off their air conditioning and keep windows and doors shut.
The fire was brought under control around 4 PM, but a small fire reignited, causing some roads and government offices to remain closed, while Interstate 20 reopened Monday morning.
