In the early hours of August 29, 2024, a warehouse in Barangay Ermita, Cebu City, caught fire. The warehouse, owned by Ryan Yaturo and rented by Saldy Vicente, 61, and Jeffrey Estrada, suffered significant damage.
The fire is suspected to have been caused by a faulty electric fan. Vicente indicated that the fan, which may have been left running and short-circuited after extended use, could have ignited the blaze. Although Vicente heard the firetruck, he initially thought the alarm was for a different location, only realizing the warehouse was on fire when an employee arrived to report it.
The fire resulted in substantial losses, including a cargo truck, two motorcycles, 11 fighting cocks, and goods intended for sale at the Carbon Public Market, such as flour, edible oil, ketchup, and noodles.
The estimated damage is PHP 6 million. Fortunately, the warehouse’s firewall effectively contained the fire, preventing it from spreading to adjacent buildings.
