Planck Vision Systems: Electrical Failure Sparks Fire at CATL Workshop, Resulting in 3 Million Yuan Damage

NEWS

On September 29, 2024, a fire broke out at the Z base production workshop of Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. Limited (CATL) located in Jiaocheng District, Ningde City, Fujian Province.

An engineer saw smoke coming from the factory at 11:40 AM from the employee dormitory opposite the Z base. Half an hour later, flames were visible on the roof. The Z base has two production workshops, Z1 and Z2, with Z2 housing six production lines capable of producing 30,000 batteries daily, enough to assemble about 50,000 Tesla Model 3s each month.

Due to the upcoming National Day holiday, many engineers chose to take the day off, allowing for most staff at the Z base to be evacuated, with no casualties reported so far.

The estimated loss from the fire is around 3 million yuan (approximately $435,000), and the preliminary suspected cause of the fire is related to electrical equipment failure. As of now, CATL and local officials have not officially confirmed the cause of the incident. CATL Chairman Zeng Yuqun responded to Jiemian News, stating, “the problem is not significant.

” Later, CATL’s investor relations department announced on their investor interaction platform that the cause of the fire is still under investigation, the number of affected products is small, and the impact on the company’s overall production and operations is minimal.

On the opening of the market on September 30, under the stimulus of supportive policies from China’s financial ministries, the accident did not negatively affect CATL’s stock price, which rose by 11% at closing, restoring its market value to over one trillion yuan. In such situations, early fire detection is crucial.

Planck Vision TNC thermal imaging cameras are far superior to traditional systems that can only alert to fire after smoke and flames become visible. These cameras help prevent destruction of goods and loss of life by monitoring for abnormal heat conditions before fires erupt, ensuring operational safety for businesses facing fire risks.
