The fire was located at the bottom of a coal container within one of the train cars. Firefighters faced challenges as the burning car was initially deep within the train yard.
Authorities had to contact the train company to move the on-fire car to a loading dock off Hill Avenue for easier access.
Once at the loading dock, TFRD worked to penetrate the bottom of the coal container with water to extinguish the flames. Fortunately, no injuries were reported during the incident.
As a precaution, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) was contacted to monitor any potential runoff from the coal that might enter the sewer system. The estimated loss from this incident is around $100,000.
