BRIDGE CITY, Texas — Several residents are without homes after a fire broke out at the Sunrise East Apartment Complex in Bridge City early Friday morning.
The fire started around 1:30 a.m. on Patillo Rd, according to Chief Ricki Boden with Orange County Emergency Services District Two. When crews arrived, they found 75% of the roof completely engulfed in flames with heavy smoke coming from the building, Boden told 12News
The apartment manager reported that 10 units have been damaged in the blaze. While no injuries have been reported, many residents have been displaced.
Quy Tsan, a resident at the Sunrise East Apartment, described the chaotic scene as the fire spread.
“Hopefully everybody gets out, you know, and the fire’s still going,” Tsan said. “Ten apartments got burned down in that 30-minute range.”
The cause of the fire remains unknown as of Friday morning. The Red Cross has been called in to assist displaced residents as the investigation continues.
Authorities have not yet released information about when residents might be able to return to undamaged units.
This is a developing story. We will update with more if and when we receive more confirmed information.
