Firefighters discovered a fully involved three-story home under construction on Sea Spray Drive, which resulted in complete destruction of the structure and moderate damage to two neighboring homes. The estimated loss from this incident is around $1 million. Initial investigations suggest that the fire may have been caused by electrical issues, but the exact cause is still under investigation.<\/strong><\/span>

On the evening of October 15, 2024, at approximately 7:48 p.m., Portsmouth fire crews were dispatched after receiving multiple 911 calls about a building fire in the area. Upon arrival, firefighters noticed smoke throughout the neighborhood but initially could not locate the source of the fire. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

After a brief search, members of Engine 3 discovered that a fully involved three-story home was ablaze on Sea Spray Drive, which is located off Vanderbilt Lane.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The home was still under construction at the time of the incident, and the flames had extended to two neighboring houses, causing moderate damage to their exteriors. The destruction of the main structure and the damage to the adjacent homes have led to an estimated loss of around $1 million.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As the fire continued to spread, a second alarm was transmitted. Fire units from Tiverton, Newport, Newport Navy, Bristol, Providence Canteen, and Portsmouth Water and Fire District responded to assist in battling the blaze. This collaborative effort was critical, especially as several additional calls for fires in the area were reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fire Chief and Assistant Chief, along with the fire marshal and off-duty personnel, responded to ensure that reserve equipment was available for any further emergency calls in the town. Thankfully, no injuries were reported, and the fire was eventually brought under control.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Initial investigations suggest that the fire may have been caused by electrical issues in the construction site. However, an official determination will be made after a thorough investigation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
