The raging Dragon Bravo Fire on the Grand Canyon’s North Rim has scorched more than 130,520 acres as of August 6, making it the seventh-largest wildfire in Arizona since 1990, according to federal fire officials.
“Yesterday, the fire spotted across the lines on the north end of the fire. Both ground and air resources worked to minimize the growth of this new front,” fire officials said on Inciweb, a federal wildfire tracker.
The lightning-caused fire, which began July 4, is at 13% containment and has more than 1,300 personnel assigned to it.
A second public meeting to discuss the Dragon Bravo Fire is set for 6 p.m. on August 6 in the CAB Auditorium at Page High School, at 434 S Lake Powell Blvd., in Page. The Southwest Area Complex Incident Management Team 2 will host the meeting, and speakers are scheduled to include the team and administrators from Kaibab National Forest and Grand Canyon National Park. The meeting will be livestreamed on the Dragon Bravo Facebook page.
Weather was expected to continue to be a challenge for firefighters. Winds will be gusty on August 6, while fire crews expect to “see a return of critical fire weather” August 7-8, officials posted to Inciweb.
On the north side of the blaze on August 6, fire crews on the ground and aircraft will continue to focus on the fireline to keep flames from extending north or northwest. Officials said this strategy will run the fire into territory where it will quickly run out of fuel to burn.
On the southwest side, firefighters continued working to establish an anchor point from which they can safely build more containment lines. On the remainder of the fire perimeter, crews patrolled established containment lines and watched for more areas to be declared contained. 
On the Walhalla Plateau, where cultural areas are being protected, fire managers want to use a new strategy to prevent the fire below the rim from trapping firefighters, if it spots on the top of the plateau.
Smoke from the wildfire will continue to be visible from surrounding areas, including the Canyon’s South Rim.
