Firefighters responded around 4:30 p.m. to the 3000 block to a reported structure fire, according to Bridgeport <\/a>spokesperson\u00a0Shawnna White.\u00a0

White said crews arrived to find a fire on the second floor of the building and used a ladder to rescue residents through an upper floor window.\u00a0
White said firefighters managed to extinguish the blaze by 5:07 p.m. She said six people were evaluated by medics on scene and two were transported to St. Vincent's Medical Center for injuries that were not life-threatening.\u00a0
White said eight families were displaced in the fire and noted the American Red Cross is assisting the residents.\u00a0
