Substation fire leaves 1,600 homes without power – Kidderminster Shuttle

Hundreds of homes were left without power in Kidderminster after a fire started at an electrical substation. 
Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service said they were called at around 3.36pm yesterday (Tuesday, April 29) to an electrical substation fire in The Patios. 
The fire service sent two crews to the scene where the blaze was fought using a CO2 extinguisher. 
The area was cordoned off and the substation was isolated by National Grid. 
A spokesperson for Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service said: “Two Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service crews – one each from Wyre Forest and Droitwich Fire Stations – were called at 3.36pm on April 29 to an electrical substation fire in The Patios, Kidderminster.
“The fire was fought using a CO2 extinguisher and a thermal imaging camera was used to check for hot spots. The area was cordoned off and the substation isolated by National Grid.
“There were no casualties and no other emergency services were required. The incident was marked as pending closure at 4.48pm.”
The incident left hundreds of homes without power in the town yesterday with residents saying they heard a “bang” before National Grid informed them of the supply issues in the area
The outage was first reported in the DY11 area shortly before 4pm with around 1,600 homes without power at its peak. 
The power had been restored to around 1,230 homes by 4.30pm.
