MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) – A kitchen fire at an apartment on Madison’s southwest side is estimated to have caused about $100,000 in damage, the city’s fire department said Thursday.
When crews arrived around 4:30 p.m. Wednesday to the building on the 700 block of South Gammon Road, Madison Fire Department crews reported seeing residents standing outside and heard alarms going off.
Firefighters went inside and said the smoke was so heavy, they couldn’t see anything. Crews used thermal imaging cameras to find the fire, which started on a unit’s stove and had spread to the cabinets and walls.
MFD crews used a water can extinguisher to put out the flames. Crews aired out the building as well, and determined the fire did not spread beyond that one apartment unit.
Firefighters said everyone evacuated and no one was hurt.
MFD is still determining the cause of the fire.
