<p>On January 10, 2025, a fire erupted in the generator of a Siemens Gamesa wind turbine at the Mel Wind Farm in Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil. The wind farm, which has a total capacity of 20MW, is owned by Iberdrola and operated by its subsidiary Neoenergia. At the time of the incident, two workers were performing maintenance on the turbine when the fire broke out. The workers immediately took shelter at a safe area on top of the nacelle, as the turbine&#8217;s elevators were not activated due to safety concerns.</p>



<p>Given the emergency situation, Neoenergia swiftly initiated its emergency plan, deploying a helicopter to airlift the workers to safety. Video footage of the rescue operation showed the workers being hoisted by airlift cables before being transported to the ground. Fortunately, both workers were unharmed and were taken to a local hospital for a medical examination. They were later released and are reported to be in good health.</p>



<p>The fire, which caused an estimated $100,000 in damage to the turbine&#8217;s generator, is still under investigation. Neoenergia is awaiting the completion of a report that will determine the cause of the fire. This incident highlights the risks associated with wind turbine operations and the critical importance of having robust emergency response plans in place.</p>

<p>On Friday, January 10, 2025, a fire broke out in the solar power system at the Kilili Beach pavilion number 3 in Susupe, causing significant damage to the charge controller. The fire, which started around 1:30 p.m., was identified as an electrical fire and reportedly originated on the concrete roof of the pavilion. The charge controller, a critical component of the solar system, regulates the energy produced by the solar panels and charges the associated battery. The Department of Public Works (DPW) is investigating the cause of the fire.</p>



<p>DPW Secretary Ray N. Yumul confirmed that the fire resulted in an estimated $50,000 in damages. He further mentioned that the fire could have been caused by a malfunction in the charge controller or issues related to the installation process. The Department of Public Works has deployed building safety inspectors to review the design plans and interview the contractor, Micronesia Renewable Energy Inc., which was the original installer of the solar system.</p>



<p>The pavilion’s solar power system was funded by a federal grant secured by the Office of Grants Management &amp; State Clearinghouse. Given the significant role this system plays in powering the pavilion, this fire has raised concerns about the safety and reliability of solar power systems installed in the region.</p>



<p>In the aftermath of the fire, it is critical to ensure that fire detection systems are optimized for early detection. <p>On the morning of Thursday, December 14, 2024, at approximately 11:30 AM, a wind turbine in Burgos, Ilocos Norte, experienced a fire. This incident marked the first-ever fire of its kind in the province. The fire reportedly began at the nacelle, the heart of the wind turbine, which contains vital components like the gearbox and generator. The incident has raised concerns about the safety of wind turbines, especially in remote areas.</p>



<p>The Energy Development Corporation (EDC), responsible for operating the wind turbine, has dispatched its technical team to investigate the cause of the fire. Deborah Melchor, the head of EDC’s corporate social responsibility program, confirmed that there were no casualties, and the wind turbine was located at a safe distance from any residential houses. Despite the fire being contained for now, the team is unable to fully investigate the cause due to ongoing flames at the top of the turbine.</p>



<p>Personnel from the Bureau of Fire Protection and the Philippine National Police arrived at the scene to assist in managing the fire and gathering information. Emma Luz Rico, the municipal disaster risk reduction and management officer for Burgos, indicated that the investigation could not proceed until the fire is fully extinguished.</p>



<p>Although the exact cause of the fire is still undetermined, preliminary reports suggest that the damage could lead to substantial financial losses, possibly reaching several million pesos. The damage to the nacelle, which contains essential electrical and mechanical systems, is expected to require significant repair or replacement efforts.</p>

<p><strong>Le matin du 21 octobre 2024, un incendie s'est déclaré sur le toit du bâtiment Yiren de l'école élémentaire Chongwen à Chiayi, Taïwan. L'incendie, remarqué pour la première fois vers 9h06 par un professeur d'éducation physique, aurait été causé par un court-circuit dans le câblage des panneaux solaires du bâtiment. En découvrant la fumée, l'école a immédiatement évacué tout le personnel, les élèves et les bénévoles du bâtiment et a contacté les pompiers locaux.</strong></p>



<p><strong>À 9 h 11, le bureau des pompiers de la ville de Chiayi a dépêché trois camions de pompiers et du personnel sur les lieux. À 9 h 20, le feu était éteint. L'équipe de pompiers a utilisé les extincteurs de l'école pour maîtriser le feu jusqu'à l'arrivée des pompiers, l'empêchant ainsi de se propager davantage. Les premières investigations suggèrent que la cause de l'incendie est un court-circuit dans le système de panneaux solaires.</strong></p>



<p><strong>Le directeur de l'école, Hsu Yuan-chia, a indiqué que l'alimentation des panneaux solaires concernés a été immédiatement coupée et que l'école a publié une annonce publique pour informer tous les élèves et le personnel de la situation.
