SMOOT, Wyo. — The Bridger-Teton National Forest (BTNF) announced a wildland fire burning on Monday evening.
BTNF posted to social media that firefighters are responding to the Travis Lake Fire in the West Zone Fire Management area of BTNF. The fire was reported around 2:30 p.m. on Monday, July 21, and is currently estimated at 5 to 10 acres.
According to the post on Facebook, the blaze is located on a ridge in timber, east of Travis Lake, between Commissary Ridge and Little Corral Creek trails. Travis Lake is east of Smoot and south of the Lander Cutoff Trail and Forest Road 10072.
The cause of the fire is unknown, but there is high spread potential, as the fire danger in the region is high. BTNF asks the public not to report any smoke that may be visible in the area.
“The public is asked to avoid the area to allow fire crews to work safely and efficiently,” the post reads. “Public and firefighter safety are the top priorities during fire suppression efforts.”
Currently there are over 20 firefighters on scene and working on fire suppression, including a fire engine, fire module and eight smokejumpers. More resources have been ordered.
