Wadsworth is experiencing a power outage that could keep the city’s customers in the dark until early Oct. 28, according to its police and fire officials.
A FirstEnergy transmission line pole near the Star Substation, caught fire on Oct. 27, causing the major power outage. The fire was not caused by the City of Wadsworth’s electric system.
The police department’s non-emergency phone lines are down, but the 911 line is working. The department is asking residents to only call 911 if experiencing a life-threatening emergency.
Police advise drivers to treat intersections as a four-way stop.
City officials said on social media just before 5 p.m. Oct. 27 the outage could continue another eight hours or even longer.
According to the city’s website, Wadsworth has owned and operated its own electric distribution system since 1916.
“Electricity is purchased from a diverse portfolio of power supply sources and serves over 13,000 customers,” the city’s Electric Department page notes. ” Local ownership ensures a greater commitment to service for residential, commercial, and industrial users.” 
The page says the system “is highly reliable due to a high tech automated distribution system that minimizes outages.”
