A man in a gas mask set fire to a a car as a woman slept inside with her dog in Victorville on Saturday, authorities said.
The fire attack, which was being investigated as an attempted murder, took place about 10 a.m. March 21 in the 16600 block of Union Street, across Sixth Street from Victor Valley High School, according to San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department records.
Sheriff’s department spokeswoman Gloria Orejel said a 37-year-old Adelanto woman was was asleep in the vehicle when her dog began barking her, alerting her that her car was on fire.
“She observed a Black male adult wearing a gas mask, standing behind her car,” Orejel said. “She quickly exited the vehicle with her dog and put the fire out with a water hose on the property.”
Responding deputies searched the area but did not find the attacker.
No further details were available as the investigation remained in its early stages.
