In the night of January 17, a fire broke out at an electrical substation in Serpukhov, Moscow Oblast, Russia, causing part of the city and nearby settlements to lose electricity.
The incident information was circulated by the Telegram channel ASTRA; Ukrinform also reported the data.
According to official data, the fire broke out at a substation near an infrastructure facility. In eyewitness footage, the 220 kV substation “Oka” No. 400 in Serpukhov is on fire; 3.5 km from the substation lies a branch of the Military Academy of Strategic Missile Forces named after Peter the Great.
Residents of the city and the media report power outages in parts of Serpukhov – in the Red Textile district and in the Bolshevik settlement. Initially the causes of the fire remained unknown; there were no official comments from authorities. Later the administration of the Serpukhov City Council explained the outage as a “technological glitch”.
According to the administration, 143 apartment buildings, 1 school, 3 kindergartens, and the Malakhovsky anti-tuberculosis dispensary were left without heating due to the outage.
Nevertheless, the city district authorities did not provide additional details about the fire. The causes of the incident remain unknown at this time.
According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, overnight 99 unmanned aerial vehicles were shot down over Russian regions and the temporarily occupied Crimea; there was no report of an attack on the Moscow region. The report lists drones neutralized over the Black Sea waters (47), over the Belgorod region (29), over Kursk (12), over Rostov (4), over Astrakhan (4), over Crimea (2) and over the waters of the Azov Sea (1).
As Ukrinform previously reported, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine confirmed damage to the Russian army’s ammunition depot in Prymorske on the temporarily occupied territory of Zaporizhzhia region and clarified the results of the strike on the Atlant Aero enterprise.
