SAN ANTONIO — Firefighters were working to contain a grass fire on the far north side on New Year’s Eve that spread to several nearby structures, according to the San Antonio Fire Department.
Crews were dispatched around 6:46 p.m. on Wednesday night to the 23300 block of U.S. Highway 281 North, where officials said the flames had grown and reached a couple of outbuildings, described as old barns, as well as a vacant home.
Fire officials said the blaze was still active but under control as of 8 p.m. on Wednesday.
A second alarm was requested as a precaution when flames began spreading toward nearby apartment complexes. The fire did not reach the apartments, according to SAFD.
SAFD said no injuries have been reported at this time. It is unclear at this time how the fire started.
