A fire ignited south of Interstate 90 on July 9 after a tree knocked over two sets of power lines, said Scott Dodd with the Superior Volunteer Fire Department.
The incident prompted a swift response from multiple agencies, including the USFS Nine Mile and Superior Districts, Frenchtown Rural Fire, NorthWestern Energy, and Missoula Electric CoOp.
"Upon arrival, we discovered a tree had knocked over two sets of power lines and caused a fire," officials said.
The fire was reported at approximately 3:15 p.m., and suppression efforts began immediately.
NorthWestern Energy and Missoula Electric CoOp discharged transmission lines to assist in the firefighting efforts and ensure continued access to the blaze.
The USFS quickly dispatched air support with two helicopters equipped with bucket capabilities.
The fire was contained by approximately 7 p.m., with mop-up operations for hot spots continuing until darkness fell.
Residents and travelers are advised to avoid the area as mop-up activities continue.
Power crews will also be on-site to repair the downed lines and poles affected by the incident.
